With one of the most extensive refueling networks in the world, Shell Aviation supplies Jet fuel (commercial and military grades), Avgas, turbine and piston engine lubricants and greases, sustainable aviation fuel and carbon offsets, technical and digital services to the industry across the globe. This includes leading the industry through the decarbonisation journey profitably whilst expanding Shell Aviation footprint in growing markets. Our Operations refuel an aircraft roughly every 14 seconds. From private pilots to global airlines, Shell creates value for its customers through the safe and timely supply of top-quality products and services.

Job Purpose:

  • To deliver safe, compliant, operationally excellent, cost competitive and low carbon operations across both Shell operations and Non Operated Ventures within the role’s geographical scope.

  • To provide strong leadership and seniority in Contract management and JV management in the countries in scope.

  • To actively collaborate with the country management teams to maximize value derived at airport locations from active portfolio management, leveraging customer value propositions with new and existing customers and optimizing operations costs

  • Provide oversight of a team of Operations Executives based in Krakow that provide hands on support to the Operations of all European countries.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Demonstrates visible management commitment and leadership for HSSE, implement Shell HSSE-MS requirements, developing and delivering airport level HSSE plans.

  • Manage Fixed Facilities (FF) and Into Plane (ITP) Fueling activities in Sweden and Finland via service provider / agent contracts, reseller and JVs, according to Shell Aviation and JIG standards.

  • Optimise operating costs including identifying and executing structural cost saving opportunities in both existing and new airports in the region.

  • Lead fulfilment of LTO (License to Operate) requirements for the airports in scope.

  • Work with engineering team and vehicle manager on annual Capex plan balancing performance, and annual operational costs

  • Managing relationship and contracts with agents and service providers applying the contract management framework

  • Jointly responsible for airport profitability targets by working with the country management teams to optimize margins and Balance Sheet at each location

  • Assume nominated Director responsibilities for Fuel Farm and Into Plane JVs within the territory including conducting the required legal and fiduciary duties in this role. Ensure that fit for purpose business controls are used to meet relevant objectives in accordance with group guidelines and policies including responsibilities to shareholders, employees, customers, suppliers and 3rd parties. Where applicable be Shell’s representative on JV Operational and / or HSSE Committees

  • Oversee activities of Aviation Operations Support team in SBO Krakow, covering all European countries, to ensure delivery of key processes; specifically Requisition to Payment (RtP), Right First Time (RFT) for data capture and Local Reporting requirements to airports, government agencies, joint ventures and partners.
  • Work with Global Operations Excellence Manager, Regional Operations Manager and Project Team on successful completion and stabilization of Operations Executives transition project for Europe, including further streamlining, standardization and improvements of transferred processes and activities.

  • Develop and lead a culture of Continuous Improvement in Operations including embedding of Leader Standard Work, Visual Management, cultivating ‘Just Do It’ initiatives.

  • Drive ESSA (Eliminate, Standardize, Simplify and Automate) in the Operations Support team to reduce complexity, improve accuracy and decrease workload.

  • Identify opportunities to employ new technologies and actively champion these initiatives with Operational Excellence Team to further simplify tasks or generate new insights to reduce costs, e.g. automation/bots, data-analysis tools etc.

Dimensions:

  • Operations management in 10 airport locations across Slovakia, Czech, Austria, Swiss

  • Circa 50 Operators in Shell Operations or in Non-Operated Ventures.

  • Role includes responsibilities of JV Director and Shell Shareholder Representative, where agreed with the Regional Operations Manager.

  • Operations Support across all European operations of SAV

Skills & Requirements

  • Personal passion Safety, genuine deep personal commitment and authenticity around drive for HSSE improvement.

  • Demonstrated sound understanding of HSSE methodology and analysis with capability to effectively implement HSSE standards.

  • Operations professional with people management experience who has the drive, communication skills and commercial acumen to make a significant impact to the business.

  • Solid experience in contract management with high HSSE Risk contracts

  • Proven experience in working with external organisations (e.g. for example Joint Ventures, Third-Party Service Providers, Authorities, etc)

  • Operational excellence mindset with experience in Continuous improvement of business processes.

  • Strong people management skills and demonstrated leadership ability in remote and virtually mode.

  • Proven ability to create and manage effective alliances with key stakeholders (e.g. customers, operating units, etc)

  • Excellent engagement and communication skills

  • Fluent in English both verbal and written is a must

  • Fluency in German or Czech or Slovak language will be a significant advantage.

Additional Information

  • Significant time will need to be spent at airport locations, location teams and with contract partners to build strong and engaged community requiring up to 30% travel requirements
