This role is an advanced buyer role supporting major maintenance project (turnaround) at one of Shell’s key assets in Qatar. Combining both Requisition to Pay (RtP) and material sourcing elements, this role is an ideal opportunity for a strong performer to step up from RtP to sourcing and test oneself in a demanding environment of project work. You would be part of a 30+ people team working for the Qatar asset from Krakow and one of the 400+ procurement professionals in Shell’s hub in Krakow.

Purpose

This role provides the successful candidate an opportunity to test him/herself in the demanding environment of turnaround – huge maintenance project of the plant – and contribute to its success. In this role, you will gain a solid foundation of materials needed to operate a plant of such size and you will drive commercial discussions around procurement thereof. You would be expected to coordinate material deliveries from the moment the demand is created till the moment the order is issued to the vendor. In the role, you will further build on your expertise of buying materials for industrial plants and will demonstrate interest in understanding the global market landscape.

Accountabilities

  • Manage E2E PO activities, including PO sourcing for non-contract PO’s

  • Engage with Requisitioners on new Business Needs and create a partnership within the scope of the role to deliver maximum Business value

  • Identify, develop, and implement Continuous Improvement (CI) opportunities to streamline and improve efficiency of the RtP process

  • Work closely with wide range stakeholders- mostly plant engineers and finance

  • Develop and execute fit-for-purpose commercial strategies and work plans for spend, aligned with procurement guidelines and with Category Management strategies

  • Apply Business understanding to develop, communicate and implement procurement strategies to maximize value of Third-Party Spend.

  • Provide a strong commercial influence with optimizing demand and specifications

  • Assure supply of contracts at market competitive terms and conditions

  • Analyze cost basis of Procurement Operations in post-award contracts for continuous improvement

  • Leverage Best practices and external market dynamics to deliver value

Dimensions

  • Manage RtP portfolio for a specific plant unit in Pearl GTL

  • Lead Block material requirement as Single Point of Accountability

  • Lead Demand Management in his / her Block and advise Business as procurement consultant on materials prioritization keeping in view the procurement perspective.

  • Lead stakeholder management in his / her Block by periodic engagement, keeping planning lookaheads in focus, reporting on progress at Block level.

  • Be able to understand and coordinate for logistics plan of shipments. Be able to coordinate for estimate for the same logistics plan and employ in overall procurement decision making or comparative analysis.

  • Create sourcing strategies for stand-alone PO’s and small-value contracts, following a local sourcing process

  • Supporting in the time-driven environment of the turnaround

  • Following technical discussions to the extent needed to understand the procurement side of things

  • Part of the virtual team. No direct reports.

  • Stakeholders predominantly in Qatar. Close cooperation with procurement staff in Qatar in the spirit of OneTeam.

  • Execute call offs/localisation of global/regional deals

Requirements

  • Min. 2 years of previous experience in Supply Chain /Logistics

  • Demonstrate sound understanding of Global procurement role in contributing to the business’ bottom line

  • Ability to understand technical discussions and context; be able to efficiently facilitate / coordinate scope development / finalization discussions with Business and Disciplines, when required.

  • Interest in learning about the materials purchased, ease of working in a technical/industrial environment

  • Knowledge of Ariba, SAP and RtP process are beneficial (preferred)

  • Ability to take initiative, influence others, and make recommendation/decisions in a timely manner with imperfect data and in situations of uncertainty as the turnaround planning works as ‘rolling wave’.

  • Strong and proven interpersonal, communication, influencing & stakeholder management skills.

  • Well-organized and able to manage competing priorities

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work both independently and in teams

  • Good communication and inter-personal skills.

  • Proven track record of execution excellence and driving results in a commercial environment while showing strong customer focus.

  • Fluent in English (written & oral). Ability to draft simple strategies in a coherent manner.

Special Challenges

  • Time difference between Krakow and Qatar is 1-2 hours (earlier) – preferred early start of the day

  • Work Hours & Holidays – The daily routine will follow as per asset / project working hours and holidays. Optional to work on Sundays (Fridays off) in return for +30%.

  • Openness to travel to Qatar in 2024 for the Turnaround event (approx. 3 months) is an asset (for a premium salary)
