Your role

As a Unix System Administration Tools Developer & Administrator with a Unix Sysadmin background, you will be working on Unix/Linux platforms to design, create and support innovative web based tooling and reporting to improve the support of the Unix platform. You will identify opportunities for improvements as well as collect requirements from key stakeholders before designing and coding your solutions.
You will be given freedom to be involved in technical design aspects and choices with regards to the websites and tools, producing and maintaining the websites and tools and reports as well as improving the functionality as required.

Your team

We are a Level 3 Unix team, part of the Infrastructure Operations group within Technology Services and working closely with other platforms including Database, Storage, Virtual (VISM), Networks and Windows. The team closely collaborate with all technology teams for the delivery of the required services.
The team maintains and supports Core Infrastructure technologies including in house designed and developed Web based tools/ NIS /RHN/Jumpstart/Puppet and ensures that the platform is maintained in an efficient and consistant way.

Key responsibilities include automation improvement and delivery of reporting and information to support ongoing maintenance and lifecycle management of the Unix/Linux server estate and the ongoing compliance against standards and audit requirements.
We liaises with Engineering and Global Service Delivery Management on solutions and requirements, leads/participates and supports Infrastructure projects and change activity and deliver of innovative solutions.

The creation of tooling and reporting that supports the core deliverables of our team, creates efficiencies and adds value to our team and stakeholders are key to this role within our team.

As part of the team you will work both duirng business core hours as well on some sheduled weekend working rotas.

Your expertise

You are:
Excellent verbal and written communicator.
Able to Design, maintain and build Infrastructure Tooling and Web sites with Database connectivity
Able to work and remain calm in a high pressure environment.
Able to effectively troubleshoot and problem solve issues.
Have ability to follow complex processes.
Good team player and equally capable of working alone.

You have:
Solid understanding of UNIX-based operating systems both Redhat Linux and Solaris.
Excellent problem solving skills and a desire to add value through innovative ideas.
Experience in programming and Website development in a UNIX based environment supporting an enterprise.
Good knowledge and understanding of programming technologies (e.g. Perl, Apache, HTML, SQL, Shell)
Knowledge of standard Unix technologies including virtualization, Clustering and file system management.
Familiarity with management of Infrastructure technologies including Automation, LDAP, Puppet, RHN, Jumpstart.
Prior industry experience is not mandatory, though will be considered favorably
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
