Shell Bitumen is a fully integrated business. Our activities under control cover all key aspects of a downstream operation, including Make (own refineries), Buy, Blend (own/third party depots), Move, Market (across Europe and Africa).

In this context the Exposure Manager Bitumen Europe and Africa as main responsibility to develop and implement exposure management and commercial price risk related offers for the region.
Job purpose:

Generate additional business value through [price] exposure optimisation:
We actively undertake price risk management and strive to fully integrate exposure management across all of our activities. You are tasked with generating additional value by integrating active exposure management across Make, Buy, Move, Sell activities and optimising our integrated position. -
Deliver compelling commercial risk related offers for Customers and Suppliers.
Working in close collaboration with Marketing and Sales colleagues you ensure Shell Bitumen continues to be the market leader in commercial Risk Management offers to the Bitumen industry.
Principal accountabilities:

Deliver increased predictability and absolute level of profitability for the Bitumen EUAF business with respect to price risk exposure

Compliance with the boundaries of Specialities and Downstream Price Risk Management governance framework.
Principal Responsibilities:
1) Commercial Elements
-
Identify and act on strategic opportunities and threats arising from sources of exposure, with the goal of increasing the predictability and absolute level of profitability for the Bitumen business in Europe and Africa

Develop new exposure related customer and supplier value propositions to drive value growth

Build exposure management competency across Specialities Europe community
-
Above and beyond the preceding responsibilities, use your understanding of exposure to contribute to growing the value of the business year on year.
2) Operational Elements – in collaboration with Pricing & Margin Optimisation Team

Establish and operate an effective and efficient system of exposure management for Bitumen EUAF that integrates the various exposure management activities across Make, Move and Sell.

Monitor exposure on the portfolio of physical contracts and commitments, specifying the appropriate action to take in order to optimise exposure arising

Establish suitable performance indicators reflecting the commercial and control objectives of exposure management.

Establish a program of performance improvement initiatives driven by the above indicators.

Responsible for ensuring compliance of Specialities Europe and Africa to applicable Exposure Management governance, and ensuring fit-for-purpose control framework is developed/in place

Develop, capture and implement best practices, share with and learn from the global pricing excellence journey inside Specialties and the wider Shell community

Experience and Qualifications required:
Essential:

Strong Commercial and Enterprise First mind set

Demonstrated skill and competency in the area of Risk Marketing and / or Trading

Competent in the application of financial instruments for risk management such as OTC derivatives (swaps and options) and Futures

Superb analytical skills, strong problem solving mind-set, preferably with a financial background

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Knowledgeable in the areas of Fuel Oil & Residue markets

Demonstrated Marketing skills and Knowledge of offer development
