If you have a passion for mobility business processes, how site automation technologies and innovation can deliver them smarter as well as can influence your Shell colleagues and technology partners, this could be your chance to make your mark in our industry. Our Site Systems Strategic Principles will guide you but at the same time challenge you to adapt them to smarter technologies being delivered by innovative vendors who are competing for their opportunity to join us to win over even more customers through compelling customer value propositions.
The role of the Site Systems Business Lead is to fulfill Shell’s Mobility Business Site Systems program globally. The Business voice drives insights and actions based on the Sites Systems Strategy, owned by Retail IT. The role collaborates with the Markets and central IT teams to determine the required focus areas for alignment between the markets and the Site Systems Vendor Industry as a whole. The Site Systems Strategy itself, should continually be reviewed and enhanced to ensure it stays relevant and aligns with business expectations and benchmarks. The most recent review was completed and signed off by the Retail Leadership Team during December 2018. It is a requirement for the Business Sites Systems Lead to collaborate with vendors and internal Shell IT to understand the market evolution and what best practices can be adopted by Shell as soon as they are proven. An important attribute for this job is the ability to work in partnership with Shell IT and translate insights into opportunities and in turn into an operational design:
- Jointly with Shell IT, manage Shell’s external relationship with Strategic and Non-strategic vendors
- Manage and maintain the Site Systems Roadmap closely with the IT Architects with the focus on asset integrity Markets
- Seek alignment across all the relevant Markets to ensure consistency in applying the Site Systems Strategic Principles
- Continuously influence all Markets in every opportunity presented to adopt as many of the Site Systems Principles outright and if not from the onset, agree to align on step in’s
- Be the voice of the Markets in their absence and support them during working sessions with Shell IT and Vendors and the review of the Vendors Site Systems roadmaps
- As business representative, have a genuine understanding of and passion for exploiting IT solutions to deliver innovative site solutions, how technology interfaces with and enables the business
- Ability to work effectively across organizational boundaries with a diverse set of stakeholders to deliver the Site Systems Strategic Principles
- Able to grasp the technical and architectural needs of our target site system, i.e. to be light weight, with real-time integration to Shell and vendor enabled services: cloud-based logic, open API integration and site components designed for internet facing environments
- Appreciate the external compliance needs of Markets, variance cross channel & differentiation in country requirements, which implies complex functional capabilities which limits vendor solutions borne from modern mobile open technology
- The strategy for site systems is based on a ‘pull’ approach rather than a ‘push’. This will require the ability to work jointly with Markets and IT meeting requirements with the site systems principles for an effective site system. This approach is also aligned with the Shell Group IT Strategy which includes the six asks that will shape the future of Shell’s business operations: Cloud, Data & Analytics, Mobile, Information Security, Market Standard Platforms, and Digitalization
- The Business Sites Systems Lead will collaborate very closely with segment and solution architects who owns this strategy and then jointly identify the capabilities required in clusters of markets, assimilable to archetypes, identifying the best vendor fit for the cluster. While the Markets have the faculty to approve and decide an investment, this analysis and decision should be carried out in combination with the analysis of other markets to maintain affordable prices and quality of delivery. The architect group in coordination with the IT Managers will ensure the adoption of this strategy and will seek help from the Regional ITMs, S&P Manager and Retail IT GM where product selection/future site systems decisions are not aligned to this
- The Business Sites Systems Lead will have a deep understanding of around 40 Site System related applications and components and be the formal Business Application Owner.
- The Business Sites Systems Lead is the Business Owner for the Site Integration Platform (SIP) and chairs the SIP – Azure Change Advisory Board (CAB)
- The Business Sites Systems Lead is required to from time to time chair the steering committees for application review projects
- Project Delivery: Previous experience as a business lead being part of the design and implementation of projects will be beneficial
- Continuous Improvement: Understanding of key CI methodologies and models which can be used to apply a CI mind-set across the various change programs will be beneficial
- Analytical Experience: Understanding of how MI can be used to drive business decisions will be advantageous
