Shell Trading & Supply has a global portfolio of crude oil, refined products, LNG, chemicals natural gas, electrical power and CO2. Trading offices are located in the US, Canada, UK, Singapore, The Netherlands, Japan, Barbados, Dubai and Russia, with many other downstream entities situated across the globe.
The Claims Team provides commercial claims advice, negotiation and resolution for Quantity & Quality, Shipping, Casualty and Insurance Claims to Shell Trading and Supply and other Downstream entities. The team works closely with Regional Fuels Product Quality and Loss Control communities, as well as stakeholders and supporting functions in the T&S businesses, playing a key role in proactively and reactively mitigating exposure, and maximizing recoveries, arising from QQI claim events.
Key to becoming a successful Claims Specialist is to minimize the impact of cost claims and maximize the recovery of pursued claims, within the contractual agreements. Main Accountabilities:
This position will support Freight and Bunkers operations in the Americas and therefore the work pattern will coincide with Houston office hours (1.00PM – 9.30PM).
As a Freight and Bunkers Claims Specialist you will:

Investigate the events of a claim and check what the contractual agreement around costs. Prepare claims with third parties and stakeholders to maximize income while reducing costs paid out, by taking appropriate action to mitigate against and prevent exposure for Shell.

Support the Regional Loss Control Advisor, Regional Product Quality Advisor and Freight and Bunkers Claims Leads in identifying bunker loss and quality events and root cause analysis of more complex freight and bunker claims.

Ensure timely recovery of claims and correct reflection of all activities and financial implication in trading systems; deliver value and profit retention to the bottom line through claim negotiation and attention to detail in the claims process.

Work according to the internal procedures to receive approval for payments and escalate using the escalation matrix to recover the maximum value for Shell.

Effectively manage key stakeholders and collaborate across a global team as required, including all communication with internal and external stakeholders – Trading, Commercial Operations, Legal, Contracts and Finance, as well as third parties, in identifying and resolving issues related to T&S movements.

Prepare monthly/quarterly reports and trends analysis.

Manage and monitor sanctions process according to Compliance requirements. Additionally, work to automate controls so that risk is reduced.
Skills & Requirements:

University Degree level or equivalent work experience

Exposure to working with and influencing global stakeholders and counterparties via remote communication

Evidence of ability to identify the root cause of problems and generate / support creative solutions to those problems

Inquiring and strong analytical skills to understand every detail of a deal, its execution, the technicalities around an operation.

Awareness of the degrees of loss control risk involved in physical oil trading and shipping operations

Ability to read and interpret legal language

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel at medium level

Experience in the industry, particularly in Marine/Terminal Operations, Oil Loss Claims, Refinery and Terminal Logistics and/or Trading Contracts -would be an advantage
