The successful candidate for the QQI Claims Team Lead role will become a key member of the QQI Claims and Data Excellence Team which forms part of the wider Global Product Quality Organisation in Shell Trading & Supply. The candidate will contribute to the Organisation’s vision of assuring brand and value protection while enabling sustained value generation through strong partnership with the DS businesses.
Key to becoming a successful QQI Claims Team Lead will be to drive the focus and performance of the team to minimize the impact of cost claims and maximize the recovery of pursued claims, within the contractual agreements. This new QQI Claims organisation will be a community of 19 QQI Claims and Data Excellence professionals. It will provide a wealth of opportunities for development and growth and establishing a respected career progression path within a dynamic team.
Main Accountabilities:
This position will support operations globally and therefore the work pattern will coincide with European office hours (9.00AM – 5.30PM) to ensure an appropriate degree of overlap with stakeholders in all regions.
Note however that Trading is a global business with 24/7 operations. As such the role may require the incumbent to work outside normal office hours on occasion and also some team members work on different shifts. Additionally, some limited travel can be expected.
The QQI Claims Team Lead will be an important member of the Global QQI Claims and Data Excellence Leadership Team, reporting into the Global QQI Claims and Data Excellence Team Manager. The team adds value to the bottom line for Shell through their commercial mindset, applying best in class negotiations, cashflow management, commercial advice and prevention of future exposure. The Team Lead will be expected to utilize their commercial and technical expertise along with their supervisory experience and excellent interpersonal skills to:

Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and lead the T&S QQI Claims Team in providing commercial claims advice, negotiation and resolution for Quantity & Quality Claims to Shell Trading and Supply and other Downstream businesses.

Be accountable for the QQI Claims Team’s collective responsibilities including the drive for continuous improvement in team performance and processes.

Ensure team is fulfilling timely recovery of claims and correct reflecting claims activities and financial implications in trading systems; delivering value and profit retention to the bottom line through claim negotiation and attention to detail in the claims process.

Work closely with key stakeholders in Commercial Operations, Trading, Supply and Manufacturing to drive operational excellence, identify profit leakage and implement sustainable remedies. Manage communications within a wide group of internal and external stakeholders switching between different claim types with strong operational understanding.

Oversee handoffs and ownership between team members supporting different Shell entities. Shoulder responsibility for training and team development.

In conjunction with the PQ and Loss Control Advisors, review contractual clauses (pre-deal stage) including but not limited to measurement, inspection, insurance and time bars to proactively mitigate against claims arising.

Take responsibility for safety, compliance and audit readiness.

Advocate the Claims team agenda and visible Claims Management with key business stakeholders. Propose new ways of working and proactive strategies for mitigating claims through engagement with T&S partners and leverage best practices from other parts of the organization.

At business’s request, contribute to projects that driver operational excellence and / or value opportunities, ensuring Claims perspective is considered

Support the Global QQI Claims Manager in cultivating a one team mindset within the QQI Claims and Data Excellence Team, drawing close links with the other QQI Claims Team Leads and the PQ and Loss Control Advisors in STO/PQ, to proactively and reactively mitigate exposure and maximise recoveries in relation to QQI claims.

Manage and monitor sanctions process according to Compliance requirements. Additionally, work to automate controls so that risk is reduced.

Actively seek CI opportunities using L-ESSA principles and digital tools to reduce risk in process and exposure for Shell
Skills & Requirements:

University Degree level or equivalent work experience

Proven ability to coach and develop

Substantial exposure to working with and influencing global stakeholders and counter-parties via remote communication

Sound understanding of the degrees of loss control risk involved in physical oil trading and shipping operations

Ability to read and interpret legal language

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel at medium level, Macros familiarity, Power BI, Salesforce

Significant experience in the industry, particularly in Marine/Terminal Operations, Oil Loss Claims, Refinery and Terminal Logistics and/or Trading Contracts an advantage
