Who we are looking for

The Head of Legal Applications Management will be responsible for growing an existing suite of applications in support of Legal department billing, contracting, and other processes. The core responsibilities include oversight of a small team responsible for end-to-end application delivery from design to production, user access provisioning, change control, and on-going maintenance. This is a hands-on role and while team management is a component, the right candidate will also be willing and able to independently execute.

What you will be responsible for

As Head of Legal Applications Management you will

  • Oversee, document, and support requirements gathering, application building/design, user acceptance testing, production releases and end-user support of custom State Street workflows

  • Manage user acceptance testing and internal approvals in coordination with the vendor

  • Oversee, document, and support all State Street Production Release Schedules, Internal Documentation/Training Updates, and Release Management in coordination with the vendor

  • Manage budgets for new application development requiring internal IT or external support

  • Establish and execute procedures for change control including initiation, impact assessment, approval, user acceptance testing, and documentation of changes

  • Be familiar with all overlapping functionality across the suite of applications and oversee, document, and support changes to solutions with overlapping functionality

  • Handle on-going application maintenance and new feature rollouts in coordination with the vendor and State Street’s Information Technology department

  • Respond to end-user technical issues; troubleshoot and debug applications and escalate significant issues to the vendor, as necessary

  • Support the on-going maintenance and new feature rollouts in coordination with the vendor and State Street’s Information Technology department

  • Provide training/demos to end-users on application functionality

  • Generate metrics on vendor and application performance

  • Review, approve and provision access for new users

  • Perform an annual review to ensure existing user access remains appropriate

  • Oversee a team of 1-2 full-time employees

  • Oversee goal-setting and provide performance feedback and coaching

  • Good knowledge and experience with data modeling and database development

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Vendor management experience preferred

  • Experience with legal operations processes and supporting technologies preferred

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science required; advanced degrees preferred

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in software development and agile methodologies

  • Significant experience with programming concepts such as variables, variable scope, arrays, looping, persisting state, and calling functions with arguments; an expert in at least one programming language

  • Experience with the development process from definition through design, build, test, release, and maintenance

  • Experience with Software as a Service (SaaS), especially financial management, process management, and process automation software

  • Experience with data visualization and building interactive Tableau dashboards

  • Experience managing a team
