Job Purpose:
We are looking for a capable and independent person to be part of a Corporate Team within the Global Operations team in Legal who will predominantly focus on the provision of legal services in respect of corporate legal matters in the area of Energy Transition/Climate Change and related support to environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) aspects of Shell’s Powering Progress strategy. We work as a team in providing legal advice and support and strive to be accepted by the business as a reliable, credible, professional business partner.
Dimensions:
This lawyer will report to the Team Lead Corporate in Central Legal Services Team in SBO Krakow, in a team supporting a Corporate Legal Department (LSC) that provides broad legal services and advice regarding Shell Group-wide issues focusing on energy transition and ESG aspects of Shell’s Powering Progress strategy. This legal counsel will be primarily supporting the Legal Working Group Energy Transition that coordinates Energy Transition and Climate Change advice at Group level (“ET LWG”) to enable operationalization of Shell’s Net Zero Emissions targets while managing disclosure, litigation and competition law risks. The lawyer will be a part of wider legal organization - Central Legal Services supporting variety of other legal departments and businesses spread across the world and a candidate will need to show a high degree of flexibility and to be able to work and provide legal support to the business virtually. Also, whilst the role has a clear focus on corporate legal matters with a strong energy transition/ESG focus, Central Legal Services works as a global team and all lawyers are expected to support each other and at times, undertake work supporting other business units. This cross-over is also encouraged from a personal development perspective.
Principal Accountabilities:
The successful candidate requires a diverse skill set and should be able to combine traditional legal skills and affinity with a risk-based approach and a passion for innovation and change. The ability to quickly handle and prioritize competing urgent requests is essential for the role. Please note that specific accountabilities may be reviewed and may change over time to adjust changing business priorities and external developments.
Providing high quality, accurate and timely advice on a diverse range of corporate legal matters with a strong energy transition/ESG focus, including:

Monitoring legislation and decisions in the area of energy transition and climate change;

Supporting Shell’s decarbonization efforts by providing coordinated GHG/ESG expertise to lawyers in Business, Functions and Sectors, generally ensuring consistency with Shell’s NZE objectives and targets;

Providing legal support to projects initiated by the ET LWG;

Identifying and supporting opportunities to digitalize, automate and simplify the provision of legal advice by the ET LWG, including enabling the use of data to identify priorities and improvement opportunities;

Advising on Group activities and communications related to the operationalization of Shell’s NZE targets.

Providing day-to-day and ad hoc legal advice related to a diverse range of other topics within the ESG;

Supporting general contracting matters such as drafting, reviewing and advising on Social Investment, donation and sponsorship agreements and other (if needed);

Client facing support on corporate separateness matters, including the review and amendment of documents and processes, inputting on training materials and other miscellaneous items;

Providing legal support to Global Functions matters that are not supported elsewhere, including contracting and compliance matters and procedures.

Capturing learnings and driving continuous improvement opportunities to the existing processes, agreements and guidance notes;

General support on continuous improvement activities for the legal team;

Carrying out such other tasks to support colleagues within the Central Legal Services Team, as required.
Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Law degree;

At least 7-10 years of relevant post-graduation experience;

Confident and enthusiastic self-starter who pro-actively identifies opportunities to improve the efficiency of business processes - proven record of continuous improvement;

Capability to quickly build knowledge on different topical areas and a demonstrated solution-oriented attitude;

Team player with the ability to work independently under pressure with minimum supervision; adapt quickly with a clear strength in identifying priority assignments, managing time and expectations;

Great communication skills along with aptitude for rapidly building and maintaining trust with a broad network of contacts and key stakeholders at all levels;

Fluency in English with strong English legal drafting skills;

Contracting experience with the ability to understand strategies and risk mitigation;

Strong analytical and issue spotting skills with the ease to translate abstract concepts into simple language;
