Head of Data Risk in Group Operational Risk, Warsaw or Gdynia

Would you like to help the bank to manage its data quality, governance and integrity risks given its strategic focus on data? We are now looking for a Head of Data Risk in Group Operational Risk to lead the constructive challenge and proactively support risk management practices, regulatory compliance and control appropriateness, as executed by the first line of defence on data topics. ​

About this opportunity

Welcome to the Technology, Security and Data team within Group Operational Risk. The Data Risk team supports Nordea by identifying, assessing, and monitoring integrity and governance risks related to Data. Our role is to challenge and support Nordea’s business in building a well-controlled, strategic data focused business in a fast-changing environment.

As the Head of Data Risk you will play a valuable role in influencing the first line to manage data risks ​, ensuring transparency on the highest risks and topical or thematic risks, and partnering with the first line to enable the business to reach and maintain a risk profile that is within risk appetite.

What you will be doing:

  • Lead the team of high qualified advisors, help people grow by providing feedback and guidance in line with Nordea values. Ensure that your team cooperates and perform at the highest possible level, and it’s important that you can operate on different levels of the organization
  • Build structures and processes that help to raise the risk awareness in Technology and Security organization, and be responsible for seeking out trends, best practices and future developments within the sector in order to meet the Nordea business strategy, values and vision
  • ​Lead the relationship and influence first line interactions with regulators on Data topics in the different countries
  • Ability to build strong stakeholder relationships and from this understand the business drivers and develop a strategic capability to harmonize Data Operational Risk and Compliance processes with business needs
  • Demonstrate integrity and principled decision making to ensure appropriate conduct in the second and first line activities and maintaining a focus on customer outcomes
  • Develop and deliver an annual Group Operational Risk plan, and monitor the risk profile of Technology, Security and Data risks
  • Plan, resource, execute, document and report on the key risks through advice, assurance and monitoring

You will join a dynamic and talented team driving pragmatic and risk focused oversight services. ​ The role is based in Warsaw or Gdynia.

To succeed in this role, we believe that you have:

  • Deep technical understanding of data processes, technologies and industry practices related to data governance
  • Sound and competent risk assessment and fine-tuned risk judgement, and ability to translate this to influence the first line's risk profile to meet risk appetite, as well as thorough understanding of Banking services and the role of Technology in financial business
  • Broad understanding of the regulatory expectations on IT, Security and Data across the EU and other relevant jurisdictions
  • High working capacity, solid track record and the ability to work with multidisciplinary teams to deliver qualitative solutions on time, and excellent communication skills and ability to influence and present ideas to senior stakeholders.

Your experience and background:

  • The following qualifications are well regarded:
    • Relevant Bachelor or Master’s Degree in technical or business subjects
    • Relevant business qualifications such as IIA / ACA / CPA / MBA, as well as Relevant technical qualifications such as ITIL, ISO27001
    • Relevant IT risk qualifications such as CISA, CRISC, CISM
  • English spoken & written (Advanced level)
  • Flexible, open-minded, strong cultural awareness
