The opportunity

Finance is at the core of the EY business and our Global Strategy and Transactions (SaT) Leadership team. Our Global SaT Leadership team values the strategic thinking and advice SaT finance demonstrates, whilst overseeing performance, planning activities, understanding investment opportunities and acting as a business partner to the leaders. As we continue on our NextWave strategic journey across EY, the role of Finance is even more critical. As a result, we have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Associate Director role to support our Global SaT CFO and Leadership team.

This role requires a finance professional that serves as a business partner and strategic advisor to key business leaders. The role provides critical thinking on business direction, operating performance and financial results, in support of our Global leadership team, and in conjunction with Global/Area finance team members. This role will establish a trusted relationship with key stakeholders, understanding their needs and teaming with other Finance team members to bring best in class analytical support, functional expertise and reporting solutions. Success in this role requires a mix of commercial acumen, analytical skills, an ability to build relationships, to communicate effectively and to persuade.

Your key responsibilities

  • Provide financial analysis services and recommendations to Global, Area and Service Line leadership in support of business planning, operational decision-making, and financial outlook.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to the other SaT finance team members we have in FAC, collaborating with the Area finance team members as well frequently to help recommend and implement ways to collaborate and expand analytics where warranted
  • Deliver monthly performance deliverables for respective business, adding insight, financial analysis, and commentary. Help maintain a robust reporting process (in conjunction with our R&A support network), and ensure commentaries are timely, insightful and action oriented
  • Be the 'Go To' contact for financial and operational issues while supporting the SL, SSL and Region Leaders and act as a trusted business adviser. Develop effective working relationships with the extended Finance team and leadership, becoming a key point of contact
  • Analyze and present complex financial data in a way that is easily understandable. Pro-actively suggest ways to solve problems and to display presentations. Develop and support the delivery of presentations that engage audiences, responding to questions and concerns arising
  • Respond to requests from Finance and SL Leadership to answer specific ad hoc financial questions and provide insightful information to advance leadership discussion and decision making. Support the design and delivery of ad hoc financial analysis. Ability to model projections, identify trends and issues that need to be analyzed and understood
  • Provide support to SL run initiatives as well as Finance run initiatives such as Service Delivery Model Transformation (SDMT) initiatives, Gross Margin improvement, Integrated Planning, etc. Support he completion on time of the various Plan, Forecast, GIP and revenue planning cycles, ensuring outputs align to the objectives set at the Area and Global levels
  • Implement planning approaches that will facilitate the achievement of strategic and operational goals. Utilize the planning process and related communications to achieve alignment of priorities; analyze and challenge Plans, highlighting key issues, opportunities and provide remedial recommendations
  • Support financial scenario modeling for leadership, providing recommended solutions/outcomes within a range of options, in support of enterprise management
  • Act as counsellor and coach to other finance professionals in FAC SaT team, supporting development and demonstration of Trusted Business Advisor competencies of the team

Skills and attributes for success

  • Actively influence day to day decisions, shaping strategy and the direction of the business
  • Interface or ‘translator’ between finance, the business, and other functions
  • Commercially aware, understanding and anticipating the needs of both finance and business leadership
  • Strong core business skills including influencing, stakeholder management and presentation skills
  • Successful finance business partnering is a way of thinking, at the heart of which is problem-solving
  • Ability to interpret data, order and assess its value and then present the findings to the relevant stakeholders in a clear and concise way
  • Ability to form and stand over opinions, have a well-developed sense of ethics and be prepared to stand up for these principles
  • Should be comfortable with risk and working with ambiguity
  • Learn from the past but are future orientated
  • Must be adaptable with the ability to deliver information in a digestible way, with clarity and appropriate to audiences. This is especially important when the message is one the audience may not wish to hear.

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Graduate and/or professional certification in a business related subject matter (i.e. Accounting, Finance)
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong spoken and written English
  • Ability to be flexible if a meeting is scheduled outside of standard working hours to accommodate a global audience.

Ideally, you’ll also have

Strong analytical skills coupled with decision making capabilities. Application of these skills includes:

  • Ensuring delivery of Exceptional Client Service to stakeholders
  • Assessing drivers of financial results with constant focus on improvement and rapid course correction where necessary
  • Analyzing data in order to form and communicate a crisp view of financial metrics
  • Continuously advising stakeholders on expected financial performance vs. plan based upon analytics such as trend analysis and modelling of forward looking scenarios
  • Ownership of issue management and resolution.

Leadership and coaching:

  • Able to work in a self-sufficient manner, operating across multiple projects and priorities
  • A successful track record of implementing and leading key business change initiatives
  • Experienced in effectively building, leading, managing and coaching a team of finance advisors
  • Demonstrates the ability to challenge assumptions and decisions in an appropriate manner

Client service:

  • Able to embed ECS (Exceptional Client Service) throughout the team
  • Focused on analysis, advice and solutions that drive the continuous improvement of financial performance
  • Drives interactions that build trust and manages expectations with all stakeholders
  • Teams with finance colleagues and other functions to enhance service to clients, and to leverage leading practices

Analysis, modelling & advice:

  • Forms and communicates a clear and concise view of financial performance
  • Synthesizes and communicates detailed financial information in support of effective decision making
  • Utilizes sound financial practices and seeks leading practices to support operational excellence

Understanding of the business:

  • Understands NextWave strategy and applies knowledge to analyze and advise on financial performance
  • Has a deep understanding of the drivers of financial performance and applies knowledge to analyze and advise on progress against targets
  • Knowledge of EY capabilities and services
  • Demonstrates appreciation and respect of varying cultures – both corporate and geographical
